Jack Goforth - whose amateur radio callsign was K4IBP -
touched the lives of many hams and was the mentor to many
that later became hams. He headed up classes leading to a ham
ticket, served as a Volunteer Examiner for amateur radio test
sessions, and in general enjoyed all aspects of this
hobby.
A committee was formed to create a lasting memorial to Jack's
life. They have defined a project that will do this and
introduce amateur radio to Boy Scouts.
The project involves building a 30 by 40 foot shelter on a
concrete pad with a roof to house a communications trailer
and tables for training. The trailer is equipped with ham
radio equipment. And training, furnishing instructions over a
six week summer camp with classes leading to the Electronics
Merit Badge. This includes building a working radio from a
kit.
